Teacher of the Year Biography  


Stephanie Cox is a native of Ellijay, GA. She attended the University of West Georgia graduating with a B.S. in Early Childhood Education which included reading and ESOL endorsements. After graduating in December 2002, she took two long term sub positions at Carrollton Elementary School teaching 4th and 5th grade. In 2004, she accepted a 4th grade part time position at Carrollton Elementary and completed her M.S. in Reading Specialist. In 2005, she began teaching at Yeager Middle School. During her time at Yeager, she has taught 6th, 7th and 8th grade reading. In 2006, she completed her Ed.S. in Instructional Technology from The University of West Georgia.

     Mrs. Cox currently teaches 6th grade reading. She served on the Leadership Team at Yeager for 9 years as 7th grade chair and later Reading Department Chair. Mrs. Cox continues to serve on the Career Day Committee which she has been a part of for the past 10 years and as a mentor in the MATCH program for the past 11 years. Mrs. Cox’s goal is to kindle the fire to read within her students, teaching them to become independent thinkers, and lifelong learners!

     Mrs. Cox married her husband Chris, five years after coming to Yeager. She contributes her success in teaching to his support! In 2012, their family grew to include daughter Natasha. She enjoys spending time with family, going to concerts, is a Life Member of Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity, and active member of Carrollton First United Methodist Church.
